PALMVIEW, Texas-The Palmview City Council unanimously selected Joel Garcia as the new Mayor Pro Tem. The selection was made during the August 1 scheduled meeting of the Palmview City Council and was sworn in by Mayor Rick Villarreal. The Mayor Pro Tem steps in for the mayor if needed and serves for a period to be determined by the council.
Garcia was first elected to the Palmview City Council, Place 5 in 2016, and was re-elected in 2020. He previously served as Mayor Pro Tem from November 2018 through 2019.
In 2021, he achieved the Certified Municipal Official designation a voluntary certification program sponsored by Texas Municipal League and the Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers, and Commissioners. His current term expires in 2024.
The City of Palmview thanks Council Member Alexandra Flores who was the most recent Mayor Pro Tem for her tireless dedication to the city.
