PALMVIEW, Texas- With many people getting ready for Spring Break, the Palmview Police Department announces it too is getting ready to increase efforts to keep our streets safe. Starting on March 7, Palmview PD will increase its patrol presence to reduce alcohol-related crashes and other incidents.

This statewide initiative runs through March 24 and officers will be looking out for people violating traffic laws and driving under the influence.

Palmview Police Chief Jose Trevino says the goal is to save lives. “Texas Department of Transportation statistics indicate that at least one person has died every day on Texas roads since November 7, 2000, that’s 23 years.  It will take all of us to end this streak and we start by reminding drivers that by getting behind the wheel they take on the responsibility and the consequences that could arise.”

Driving under the influence is very dangerous and comes with potential fines of up to $2,000 and up to 180 days in jail.

The Palmview Police Department reminds drivers to drive safely, don’t drink and drive, move over or slow down for emergency vehicles, buckle up everyone, don’t drive tired, and eliminate distractions like texting.

Together we can #End the Streak!
